LATEST ACTIVITY:

Joan Meier, Director, National Family Violence Law Center at GW, interviewed on the Allen v. Farrow docuseries on HBO.

MISSION

NFVLC's mission is to expand public and professional awareness of the need - and to craft the tools necessary - for better protection of at-risk children in family court.  The Center brings together domestic violence, child maltreatment, and other child-focused professions to more powerfully inform legal policy and judicial decision-making about children exposed to family violence. The Center is the first organization in the nation to build an empirical foundation for these much-needed system reforms.  NFVLC furthers its mission by procuring and deploying empirical research, articulating and advancing policy proposals, and engaging in selective litigation as amicus curiae. The NFVLC also mobilizes and supports local and national advocates and grassroots efforts on behalf of victims, and amplifies the public and professional discourse through media outreach and communications.

Appreciation for the Center's vision of hope for system change, support and advocacy

“what you are doing is the first thing to give me HOPE for change . . .”

Tina Swithin

“I was appalled at what I saw in court, from both legal and scientific perspectives. My experience resonated exactly with what Prof. Joan Meier has described. I also want to thank Prof. Joan Meier very much for her work on the subject."

A protective stepfather

“Joan Meier is one of my heroes – if you are seeking ways to make an impact on the broken institution of family court, this is where I am putting my money. If there is anyone who can make changes in this broken system, it is Joan . . . “
